Ian “BaseZone” Smith

Panacea Radio Presenter

Ian “BaseZone” Smith, also known as DJ BaseZone, is a veteran UK DJ, radio presenter and producer with more than three decades of experience behind the decks. Based in Greater Manchester, Ian has built a reputation for bringing quality soul and urban sounds to audiences both on the radio and at live events.

His journey began in 1990, inspired by Manchester DJs working the legendary Technics 1210 turntables and by watching live MCs including The Mighty Soul Control. After buying his first mixing equipment and beginning to build his record collection, Ian quickly developed a passion for DJing that would become a major part of his life.

Over the years, Ian has held numerous club residencies across Greater Manchester and has become known for taking Soul and R&B beyond the traditional urban club circuit, introducing the music to new venues and audiences while remaining firmly rooted in the sounds that first inspired him.

Alongside his club work, Ian is an established radio presenter and hosts the weekly Smooth Urban Soul Radio Show, showcasing his selection of soulful grooves and contemporary urban sounds. He also co-hosts the quarterly Smooth Urban Soul live event, bringing the music and atmosphere of the radio show directly to the dancefloor.

At Panacea Radio, Ian brings decades of DJ experience, musical knowledge and a lifelong passion for soul to his broadcasts, delivering a distinctive selection shaped by more than 30 years of collecting, DJing and sharing great music.
